About Us

What are we doing?

As of 2020, breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer type in the world, regardless of sex or gender.

There is currently no product in the mastectomy bra market which gives women who have had a mastectomy the support, comfort and style they deserve.

Almost 8 out of 10 women who have had mastectomies experience unrelenting back, neck and shoulder pain.

We Embrace have designed a new breed of mastectomy bra with a revolutionary, novel way to hold breast prosthesis weight. With this, we believe we can drastically reduce back, neck and shoulder pain for women who have had mastectomies. This will completely change the day-to-day lives of these women, many of whom live in constant pain.

We believe that every woman who has had breast surgery has the right to a bra that is:

• Affordable
• Supportive
• Comfortable
•Attractive

Who Are We?

Jo – Founder

Retail Operations Manager, Trained Bra Fitter and Entrepreneur

This bra design was something that I sketched out over a decade ago. My experience of my mum’s breast cancer journey was obviously entirely different and much more sheltered than hers. For me, it was birthday scavenger hunts in hospital rooms (spoiler alert, there are not many places to hide things there), a team of nurses who were kept thoroughly updated about my life and a box of envelopes with our names on that we would hopefully never be allowed to open.

Throughout my career, I have gained experience in several different areas which all directly feed into my goal with We Embrace. I became a trained bra-fitter and I worked in retail and charity operations.

This start-up is important to me because after everything my mum had been through, the last thing she deserved was a wild goose chase for a good bra. I saw the daily trade-offs that my mum would have to make, usually sacrificing her comfort, because of an inadequate product offering. I am determined to change this.

Jonny - Bra Engineer

Mechanical Engineer by day, partner in bra design by night

Growing up Jonny has always been interested in how things work, taking apart everything to in an attempt to understand its inner workings, almost always to his parents dismay. Going on to study mechanical engineering at undergrad and then pursuing an MPhil developing flexible stretchable electronics for sport and wellbeing applications.

Today, Jonny spends his days working as a Mechatronics Engineer on cutting edge drone and aerospace technologies. By night he spends his time looking to improve the world around him, be it through a better bra or volunteering as a STEM mentor.

This start-up is important to me as I believe no one should have to live with discomfort, and after learning about the current state of the post-surgery and mastectomy bra market, I was horrified. While it is a product I will personally never use, I would love to be able to ease the pain of as many people as I can.
